I’m writing this because I’ve let my fear of the dentist get the absolute best of me over the last few years, and I know I need to finally book a checkup before a small ache turns into a major issue.
Just the smell of a dental office or the sound of the tools makes my heart race. I’m trying to actively educate myself on how modern clinics handle anxious patients so I can mentally prepare. I was just reading an article on https://lombardiyerskydental.com/ about how sedation dentistry works, and it made the whole process sound a lot less terrifying than what I have pictured in my head.
For those of you who used to have severe dental phobia, how did you take that first step to actually sit in the chair? Do you tell the receptionist upfront that you're terrified, or do you take something to calm your nerves beforehand? I'd really appreciate any coping strategies you guys have.
